Book two has begun!!!!!
Yes that's right, after much procrastination and working on other projects I have finally decided its time to start work on the second in the Nightshade series.
I know what your thinking 💭 why the long title right? Well, it really is the best title, it did have two other potential contenders but they just didn't work with the plot. (Trust me when I say there is method in my madness, especially when it comes to the titles of my books.)
Like most book titles, it has something to important towards the plot line. As many novels you read there is more than one plot and always one vital one, the heart ♥ as it were.
It's a challanging thing, creating a title, do you reveal the main plot, do you keep it a mystery? Titles are a very important, yet hard thing to create at times. Take chapters for example, do you number or name them? I personally like to name them in fantasy novels, not so much in others though. It makes for interesting conversations.
For example, have you read the 'death of a villian' chapter yet? To which you can reply, oh my gosh I passed that and am near the end of 'blood toll.' you know, something like that. I think fantasy novels need to have exciting, or cryptic titles, or just plain as day titles, just to make it more exciting!
But, as usual I digress. Kayleigh-Lou has finished her first year at Shiva's and made new friends, discovered herself and new magical, Arcane power and of course, made that rivalry with James. You'd think there wasnt much more for her to return to..... Right? Well, I can let you in on a little secret (Oh the glories of not having an agent) Kayleigh-Lou is DYING to go back to Shiva's. I decided to make Shiva's like a traditional school/academy and have yearly terms. Although the actual academic year is all over the place, (A representation of Wilber's unorthodox approach to learning.) it's similar to a college where students go for a specific reason, for example a skill itself. But I have also added compulsory lessons such as Potions, History and so on. I'll open more lessons as the series progresses, which of course means more professors. I like professors over teachers, it feels more grown up, more mature and not so infantile.
Of course there are many things to cover in this book, first of all there is the further use and progression of Kayleigh-Lou's sorceress power. There is the matter of Bane himself, why did he attack the school to get to Wilber? And who the hell is this creepy man who delights in seeing the life fade from a young woman's eyes? (what a jerk!)
In this novel I want more interaction between Kayleigh-Lou and fellow students, she'll still be cold and a bit of a loner at times, that's just her sadly, but she'll still have those social skills the Twins coaxed out of her in the first novel. I do love the twins, so the same but different at the same time. I wanted to stay away from the typical, identical twin thing and make them the same, but different, different sides of the same coin, as it were.
I really want to intensify the rivalry between Kayleigh-Lou and James, I really like the war of words between them, then again I think having an all out fight is on the way, I can feel it.
Of course I can't and won't give too much away, that would be pants 👖 but I will keep you up dated, mostly on Twitter because I think it's safe to say Im a terrible blogger 🤣
Hope you have a wonderful week....... It's raining over here.... But hay hoe this is the UK 🇬🇧 and we're known for our glorious weather 🤣🤣🤣
