Well there's not really much to say, if you have been following my twitter feed you'll know that my journey into the world of horror has been far from a resounding success. i think it's safe to say that I need to do more research by reading more horror book's, talk to others who wite the genre and I think it will be a very good idea to talk to people who read it themselves.
You see, i read a few ghost stories, some gory horror novels but nothing prepaired me for Stephen King. Namely IT. That was a trip and a half, ever since the day I read that book I have never picked up one of his books again. I think it's safe to say, Mr King really does rule the world of horror.
From what I understand, you have to make the reader scared, like if you're character is scared of spiders, but the reader is not, you have to install some element of fea in the reader. I must admit i'm not a fan of the hack and slash, blood, guts and gore everywhere. I think, if and when 'Porcelain" is every written it will be more a horro of the mind, I'm not sure what that falls under. Like the gilr in a large house, the rain is falling outside, the storm rages, the power goes out and for some reason, known only to the girl, she walked aruond the house in the dark and wonders why she's scared.
So I have decided to shelf 'Porcelain' for a while until I research further, It's sad because I really like the idea, the characters and the plot twists and turns.
But on the plus side, I have decided to start fully on 'Prisoner 702' the novel created for one character. For those of you who dont know, I created a character, a female, you could say a mixture of The Joker and Hannibal Lector. She's very smart but also gives off an air of insanity. She does her crimes with no reasoning at all apart from she thought it would be fun, or it was a good idea at the time.
I'm not going to hide this is a woman, those of you who follow and support me deserve to know a small hint. the opening chapter all points towards her being a man, but there is some much more to her and the relationship between her and the Special Agent assigned to her, well, that's going to be super fun to write. They just bounce off one another, like a comedy duo, yet, the Special Agent if not finding her games fun. Let's put it this way, the cheif of the insane asylym tells him this,
"Whatever you do, do not let Prisoner 702 inside you're head." Well, this will be fun, to be honnest I have never written from the point of view from a male.
As most of my reader's know, my main characters are female, of course I do have some scenes from others point of view. But this time, it's 90% from the Special Agents point of veiw. So, I'll be within the mind of a man as I write, not just any man, one that is obcessed with his work, his mind forsakes everything once on a case. You'll understad more when the novel is done, I dont want to give too much away.
Now, there is one thing that I'm slightly unhappy with.......the Special Agents name. at the moment He's just called Special Agent Greenway, I've been playing with a few names but nothing seems to fit thus far. I will find one that fits and edit it in, I want it to be strong, not too strong, I want it to be a little more stylish as well. Oh well something will hit me I'm sure, I'll just have to write and go from there.
So, part time novelist and full time lab tech, haha, it's fun being self published. At least I have Createspace and Amazon behind me, it's not a glam position, but hay, I'm published and people I dont know are enjoying my novels, That alone makes me happy, I love the thought that people are reading my work and enjoying them as much as I do.
So, a little insite. When I'm writing I like to either listen to classic FM or have something running in the back ground. I love anything from the NatGeo but recently I have been rewatching a science programme called Bang Goes the Theory. Again if you follow me on twitter you'll see some of the videos I shared. It really reignited my love for science, I loved science as a kid, dont get me wrong, Braniac was good and fun, BUT I like Bang for many reasons, it was fun. Liz was a great role model for girls, science is for girl, she is pretty, smart, well very smart. Then you Have Dr Yan, well if you have ever watched one of his videos, it speaks for itself. The you have Dallas, he's very fun, he seems to get all the fun segments and space themed, I love space so I do like Dallas' segments a little more thatn Liz and Yan's. THEN there's Jem. What can i say, they guy is a genius, I love his childlike excitment. All in all it's a great programme to have running in the back ground as I write. Not to mention at times I stop and laugh at points. I forget how many funny, silly thing's Dallas says........Hmmm rockety. :-}
Well, back to the novel. Have a lovely bank holiday weekend, what ever you are doing.
Tatty Bye
